Strong Laws of Large Numbers for Dependent Heterogeneous Processes: a Synthesis of Recent and Newresults

This paper surveys recent developments in the strong law of large numbers for dependent heterogeneous processes. We prove a generalised version of a strong law for L2-mixingales that seems to have gone unnoticed in the econometrics literature, and also a new strong law for Lp-mixingales. These results greatly relax the dependence and heterogeneity conditions relative to the results that are cur...

A MAXIMAL Lp-INEQUALITY FOR STATIONARY SEQUENCES AND ITS APPLICATIONS

The paper aims to establish a new sharp Burkholder-type maximal inequality in Lp for a class of stationary sequences that includes martingale sequences, mixingales and other dependent structures. The case when the variables are bounded is also addressed, leading to an exponential inequality for a maximum of partial sums. As an application we present an invariance principle for partial sums of c...

Wavelet Based Estimation of the Derivatives of a Density for a Discrete-Time Stochastic Process: Lp-Losses

We propose a method of estimation of the derivatives of probability density based on wavelets methods for a sequence of random variables with a common one-dimensional probability density function and obtain an upper bound on Lp-losses for such estimators. We suppose that the process is strongly mixing and we show that the rate of convergence essentially depends on the behavior of a special quad...

A note on uniform convergence of an ARCH(∞) estimator

We consider parameter estimation for a class of ARCH(∞) models, which do not necessarily have a parametric form. The estimation is based on a normalised least squares approach, where the normalisation is the weighted sum of past observations. The number of parameters estimated depends on the sample size and increases as the sample size grows. Using maximal inequalities for martingales and mixin...

A Note on Quadratic Convergence of the Homogeneous and Self-Dual Linear Programming Algorithm

In this note we show that Ye-Todd-Mizuno's O(p nL)-iteration homogeneous and self-dual linear programming (LP) algorithm possesses quadratic convergence of the duality gap to zero. In the case of infeasibility, this result shows that a homogenizing variable quadratically converges to zero and implies that the iterates of the (original) LP variable quadratically diverge. Thus, we have establishe...
